Firm Partner Receives Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal
Ottawa, ON, November 2, 2012 – Paul LaBarge, co-founding partner at LaBarge Weinstein LLP, was presented with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in a ceremony on October 31st. His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, presented medals to 34 recipients at the exhibit From Far and Wide – Honouring Great Canadians located on 90 Wellington Street, across from Parliament Hill.
Paul’s decoration was received for his dedication to the creation and development of the Trans Canada Trail. As one of the original members, Paul has held various positions with the organization since 1995 and currently sits on the Board of Directors as the Chair.
The Trans Canada Trail is the world’s longest network of trails, developed and promoted by a non-profit registered charity. Today, more than 16,800 kilometres of trail have been developed. When completed, the Trail will stretch over 23,000 kilometres from the Atlantic to the Pacific to the Arctic Oceans, linking 1,000 communities and all Canadians.
Paul received similar honours back in 2002 when he was presented with the Queen Elizabeth II Gold Jubilee Medal to mark the Queen’s 50th anniversary of accession to the throne. The medal was awarded to “those persons who…have made a significant contribution to Canada, to their community, or to their fellow Canadians.”
On October 26th, their Excellencies the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, and Mrs. Sharon Johnston participated in the renaming of a section of the Trans Canada Trail now designated The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Trail. The event was held on the Ottawa River Pathway, behind Parliament Hill.
