Ottawa’s 100 Rising Stars of 2012 Are Announced
Ottawa, ON, November 8, 2012 – During Global Entrepreneurship Week, which runs from November 12 – 18, Invest Ottawa, in partnership with the Ottawa entrepreneurship community, will celebrate Ottawa’s 100 Rising Stars. These individuals will be celebrated and their work will be showcased at various events across the city.
According to Invest Ottawa, “Rising Stars are entrepreneurs who are growing exciting start-ups, social enterprises, and non-profit organizations, that have been in operations for less than 5 years. These entrepreneurs are visionary leaders, driving change across all industries and sectors, and are shining examples of entrepreneurial excellence in Ottawa.”
Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) is an initiative that was started in 2008 by former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Carl Schramm, the president and CEO of the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. It is the world’s largest celebration of the innovators and job creators, who launch startups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth, and expand human welfare.
Canada is one of 120 countries involved in GEW and for a second year in a row, the Ottawa community is actively participating. There are dozens of activities and event being hosted by over 20 organizations, with the goal of engaging entrepreneurs from all industries and of all ages.
The inaugural Ottawa Entrepreneurship Awards will take place on November 16th as part of next week’s festivities. In addition to awards for entrepreneurs, the Entrepreneurship Support Organization of the Year and the Entrepreneurship Community Builder of the Year will also be recognized.
