Two New Partners at LaBarge Weinstein
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ottawa, ON, September 14, 2012 – LaBarge Weinstein LLP, a business law firm, is pleased to announce that Estelle Duez and Michael Morgan have become partners of the firm.
In 2004, Estelle joined the Tax and Estate Planning group at LaBarge Weinstein, where she assists clients with the tax implications of their business transactions. Working closely with members of the firm’s Corporate, Commercial, and Securities group, Estelle provides advice regarding the Canadian taxation of investment rounds, mergers, acquisitions, and public offerings with the goal of maximizing value for all parties. Prior to starting at LaBarge Weinstein, Estelle worked in the tax department at a major Toronto law firm.
Michael is head of the firm’s Intellectual Property Commercialization and Licensing group. Prior to joining LaBarge Weinstein, Michael was the general counsel of an Ottawa-based security software company and a member of the legal team at a large telecommunications organization. Michael specializes in intellectual property law with an emphasis on transactions for the development, acquisition, licensing, and use of technology products and services. Michael also advises clients on complex issues relating to the use of open source software and export controls for cryptographic and telecommunications products. In addition to his law degree, Michael has a Master of Mathematics in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo.
“This has been an exciting year for the firm,” said co-founding partner, Debbie Weinstein. “We celebrated our 15th anniversary, we just opened an office in Vancouver, and now we’ve added to our partnership. Having grown from six lawyers in 1997 to over 20 this year, we plan on continuing to build our firm to capitalize on knowledge-based industries across Canada as we head into 2013.”
LaBarge Weinstein added three new lawyers to their roster over the past three months. Former articling students, Joelle Gogo and Michael Grantmyre, were hired as associates in July and in August, Brigitte LeBlanc-Lapointe – formerly of Sullivan & Cromwell, joined the practice.
